Dear RCSD Community,

Students were off today for Superintendent’s Conference Day, but RCSD teachers and staff were busy taking courses on technology related to AI as well as critical thinking, grades 4-8 math instruction, and the Canva and WeVideo apps. Workshop sessions throughout the day were facilitated by our instructional coaches, teachers, and administrators. It was an engaging and productive day of learning.

Dear RCSD Community,

If you’ve ever thought about school board service, please consider coming to the RCSD Board of Education Service Interest Meeting this Tuesday, March 11, at 6:30 p.m. in the RMS Multipurpose Room. Current members of the Board of Education and I will be on hand to provide an informal primer on School Board service. Hear about the experiences of Board members and learn about Board responsibilities, time commitment, and election procedures. We promise to keep it both short and informative!

Dear RCSD Community,

World Read Aloud Day is traditionally celebrated on the first Wednesday of February, and the anniversary of Dr. Seuss's Birthday (March 2) is National Read Across America Day. No matter what the occasion, RCSD elementary schools have been celebrating the lifelong joy of reading this month. On February 5, Osborn School marked World Read Aloud Day with teachers and their family members, administrators, Rye Police officers, Rye Firefighters and EMTs, and Elizabeth the Librarian from the RFRR visiting classrooms to read a special book. Students also had a chance to visit their classroom teachers from last year!

25-26calendar

Dear RCSD Community,

Attached and linked here please find the 2025-2026 School District calendar which was approved at last night's Board of Education meeting. The calendar is also posted to the District's website: go to www.ryeschools.org, scroll down and click on the "CALENDAR" icon in the red bar, and then scroll down to the bottom of the page where it says "District One Page Calendar." The current year's and next year's calendars are both there.

There are some notable differences in next year’s calendar:

  • Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur all fall during the school week in 2025, resulting in September 23 & 24 and October 2 as holidays
  • Diwali falls on October 20
  • For the second time in two years, we have a full two-week Winter Recess
  • The Lunar New Year holiday falls during our February break
  • Spring Break in 2026 is a little earlier than this year’s but still nicely coincides with both Easter and Passover
  • RHS graduation is on a Thursday evening: June 18

Once again, we added some verbiage at the bottom of the page to provide some guidance about snow/emergency days. We hope it helps clarify the age-old question of in what order days are “given back.”

As a reminder, half-days are indicated by a diagonal line through the day - please check to make sure the half-day applies to your child’s school. Finally, the first and last days of school are indicated by a bold box colored yellow.

Finally, the last day for students is June 26 in 2026. We recognize this is a late end to the school year for many families looking to begin vacation travel or summer camp. Unfortunately, we have no say in the matter. The State Education Department tells the school district what the last day of school will be, and we, and all other districts in New York, must comply. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this causes you or your family.

Best regards,
Eric Byrne, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
