World Language
As global citizens, we recognize the need to be able to communicate in other languages. Rye students begin to study Spanish in elementary school in the FLES program. The middle school offers Spanish, French, Latin, Mandarin Chinese, and American Sign Language to students in sixth, seventh, and eighth grades. Members of the language department use a variety of teaching techniques to help students learn the language of their choice. The grades earned in seventh and eighth grade world language go on the student’s high school transcript and are included in the high school grade point average.
